Learning from Fellow Musicians: Music Marketing Wins and Fails

👋 Want honest advice and mediocre jokes in your inbox every Monday?

I’m about to hop on a plane to head back to Maryland.

Alli and I are flying back to catch her little sister’s graduation, and unsurprisingly, I haven’t given myself enough time to write 2,000 words about some music marketing topic.

But last week, I was doing office hour calls with my Spotify growth community, and a few of my members mentioned that they’d appreciate hearing about marketing from other artists. “Same,” I thought.

So, taking inspiration from folks wiser than myself, I’m going to use this week’s newsletter both as a cop-out and as an opportunity to hear from you.

I’d love to hear your answers to these questions:

  • What have you been doing to market your music?
  • What you have found to work well?
  • What you have found to be a waste of time (or just disappointing)?

Reply and let me know. (And feel free to answer any one or all three.)

I’m looking forward to hearing what’s going on with you. Next week, when I will not be attempting to catch a plane, I’ll share some of the best (or at least the most interesting) answers.

Hopefully we can all learn from them.

Thanks for reading! On a related note…

Want more people to hear your music?

Here are three ways we can help.

📕 Take our free mini-course on Spotify marketing. To-the-point lessons to help you master the only four direct ways to get (real) streams.

🙌 Join our Spotify growth membership. You get 1:1 calls with me, cutting edge courses, and access to a cool community of other artists.

📈 Hire us to promote your music. We run Meta ads to help artists get more streams and engagement on Spotify. It works and we’re pretty good at it.
